Newcastle United fans have started to message WWE owner Vince McMahon, asking him to buy the club.

Newcastle put out a public statement yesterday, announcing that they were up for sale.

Mike Ashley is looking for a swift exit from Newcastle, and has put his shares up for sale.

And Magpies fans are seemingly of the opinion that they would love McMahon to be in charge at St. James’ Park.

McMahon has built up the WWE empire, and is now worth more than $1 billion.

The 72-year-old businessman was linked with Newcastle back in 2011 in the Guardian, but no deal materialised.

Whether McMahon’s interest then was genuine is not clear, but Newcastle fans seem to be hoping that they can persuade him to put in a bid this time around.

Newcastle still have much work to do before a new buyer can be found, but they are the subject of interest from Turkish businessman Murat Ulker, according to the Independent.
