Newcastle United have been heavily linked with Villarreal boss Unai Emery – and his league form this season has been less than impressive to say the least.
The Magpies parted ways with Steve Bruce last week as the club’s new owners look to make changes at St James’ Park.
A host of names have been linked with the job in recent times, and Villarreal boss Emery was touted as a shock candidate.
The Daily Mail claim that Emery has been part of internal discussions over who Newcastle could appoint.
The Northern Echo added that Emery would be willing to jump ship and leave Villarreal for a move to Newcastle.
Newcastle Emery target struggling for form
Ian Wright once called Emery a ‘genius’ during his time at Arsenal, but that tag may be seen as comical.
Emery’s time at Arsenal didn’t end well, but he did go and win the Europa League with Villarreal last season.

This term, Villarreal are struggling for league wins under Emery.
Tuesday’s 3-3 draw with Cadiz – which needed two late goals to secure – means Villarreal have won just twice in 10 league games this season.
They have only lost twice in that time though, drawing six times along the way.
This may be something for Newcastle to think about if they target Emery, and Villarreal may hope they appoint somebody else soon just so the rumours can disappear.
