Villarreal boss Unai Emery one of very few managers to have widespread support across Newcastle United’s new regime as they seek to make an appointment.
That’s according to The Mirror, who claim that Newcastle’s ownership structure all seem to want Emery in charge at St James’ Park.
The likes of Paulo Fonseca, Roberto Martinez and Lucien Favre are understood to have split opinion across PIF and other shareholders.
Final interviews will allegedly take place this week and a new manager is expected to be appointed inside the next seven days.
Emery now appears to be the hot favourite, especially after other claims emerged on Monday.
Sport1 in Germany claimed that Favre was out of the running as Newcastle were pushing to bring in Emery instead.
Currently in charge at Villarreal, Emery won the Europa League for the fourth time in his career last season.

Villarreal’s form has absolutely nosedived though. They have won just two in 11 La Liga games this season and have taken just one point in the last four outings.
If Emery isn’t careful, he may find himself under pressure.
Newcastle may now hope that the timing is perfect and they can turn Emery’s head with a money-spinning move to Tyneside.
The compensation would cost £7million according to the Daily Mail.
Branded ‘so unique’ by Matteo Guendouzi, Emery didn’t quite get the time he wanted at Arsenal and may now fancy a return to England to settle some unfinished business in the Premier League.
