Unai Emery will reject a move to Newcastle United despite seemingly not believing his own commitment to Villarreal last night.
That’s according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, who has been discussing the situation on Twitter.
Let’s start with Newcastle’s interest in Emery.
The Daily Mail claim that Emery has told Newcastle’s Amanda Staveley that he wants the St James’ Park job.
It just so happens that Staveley wants Emery to be Newcastle manager too, and the Magpies hope to have him on board this week.
Emery still has a job to do at Villarreal though, and took charge of their Champions League win over Young Boys on Tuesday night.
This is where things get interesting.
Emery did admit there is interest from Newcastle, but that no deal is done or close.
Emery added that he expects to manage VIllarreal this weekend, but La Liga expert Balague suggested that Emery didn’t seem to believe his own words.
So, all good, Emery to Newcastle is on?

Well, maybe not.
Balague later tweeted that Villarreal are trying to convince Emery to stay and that the former Arsenal boss will actually reject Newcastle.
Balague feels Newcastle’s lack of clear vision, leaking information on a matchday and targeting a different type of manager in Eddie Howe is all concerning Emery.
He added that Emery is unlikely to take the Newcastle job for another year, holding off until their plans become clearer – and putting a dent in Newcastle’s hopes in the process.
It sounded so positive for Newcastle, but this shock update from Balague suggests Emery isn’t going anywhere after all.
