But Newcastle could soon over their apparent failure by landing Manchester City’s Tosin Adarabioyo instead.
It is claimed that Norwich are looking for double the £8 million Newcastle are willing to pay for the winger, who impressed in last season’s Championship.
Sticking with wide players, Sammy Ameobi is heading back to Bolton Wanderers on a two-year deal after his release by the Magpies earlier this month, according to The Sun [12 July, page 51].

And he may not be the only ex-Newcastle player plying his trade in next season’s Championship, with The Chronicle reporting that Karl Darlow has been left out of Friday’s friendly against Hearts, to avoid scuppering the club’s chances of selling him.
Middlesbrough have been strongly linked with a move for the Magpies shot-stopper, along with Aston Villa and Reading, and he is described as being open to a move to the Riverside.
