A round-up of recent Newcastle United transfer stories.

Newcastle United are in talks with Stoke City and West Ham United about deals for two Spanish players, according to The Chronicle.

The Magpies are said to have enquired about the possibility of signing Joselu, the Stoke striker, with West Ham goalkeeper Adrian their other alleged target.

The report claims Joselu is likely to be moved on by the Potters, while Adrian is considering quitting the Hammers after falling behind Joe Hart in the pecking order.

Elsewhere, Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney has explained to The London Evening Standard why he chose to commit his future to the Championship club earlier this summer, despite reported interest from Tyneside.

He said: “I love London. I do not want to move. It is a great place to live and I have settled quickly. I love life on and off the pitch and when you are happy you play your best football. You cannot put a price on happiness.

“If you are happy and you come into training with a smile on your face, you will always keep improving. It is something I did all of last season and I will look to do the same this season.”

And Newcastle may hope the appeal of London and its surrounding area does not cost them another transfer target, after Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Napoli goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis is in talks over a move to Watford.

Finally, one from yesterday – since we did not run one of these at the time – the Magpies are interested in signing Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, according to The Daily Mail.

Nevertheless, it is claimed that Rafa Benitez’s side cannot currently afford the £30 million transfer fee and £100,000-a-week wages required to pull off a deal for the player, who is out of contract in 2018.
