A scattering of Thursday’s top transfer stories involving Newcastle United.
Metz have offered £1.5 million for Newcastle United outcast Emmanuel Riviere, The Sun reports [13 July, page 51].
The Frenchman has a year left on his contract on Tyneside and the Magpies are looking at a £4.5 million loss if they accept the Ligue 1 side’s bid.
Newcastle paid Monaco £6 million for the striker in 2014, but were rewarded with just three goals in 31 appearances.

Also on his way out of St James’ Park could be Yoan Gouffran, despite Newcastle’s offer of a new contract to the Frenchman, whose previous one expired at the end of last month.
According to Goztepe SK President Mehmet Sepil, as quoted by The Chronicle, the Turkish side are confident of signing Gouffran, who would allegedly prefer a move to the Izmir-based side than remain in England’s north east.
And the bad news doesn’t end there (depending on your stance on Gouffran, anyway), with The Daily Mail reporting that West Ham United set to win the race to sign Joe Hart on loan from Manchester City.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is widely acknowledged to want a new first-choice goalkeeper, but it is claimed his side were only willing to cover a quarter of Hart’s wages, as opposed to West Ham’s 50 per cent offer.
But it’s not all bad, it seems, with Norwich City’s Jacob Murphy informing his employers he wants to play for the Magpies, according to The Chronicle.

London-native Murphy is bizarrely said to have supported the Toon Army as a boy, though the newspaper adds that he would cost them in excess of £10 million.
