Craig Burley has claimed that Newcastle United fans would ‘burn the place down’ if Bruno Guimaraes was sold by the club.

It was suggested by Shaka Hislop that this could be the case, and if a bid of ‘£100 million’ comes in, then Bruno Guimaraes is off.

The 25-year-old is perhaps Eddie Howe’s most important player at Newcastle, and given their recent rise, the powers that be wouldn’t even think about selling key assets.

The Magpies had a blip when Unai Emery’s Aston Villa wiped the floor with them on Saturday, but they are still favourites to secure Champions League football.

Putting that on the table, there surely is no way Guimaraes leaves, but that was put forward by one of their former keepers, with Burley issuing a blunt response to that transfer claim, as he told ESPN.

“I think, if a bid of £100 million comes in, then I think they would sell,” said Hislop.

Burley responded: “No chance, they would burn the place down.”

Hislop added: “You can use that money to bring other players in. They aren’t spending that way. The ownership group aren’t going to be spending huge sums of money on players.”

GUIMARAES KEY TO NEWCASTLE’S LONG-TERM SUCCESS

If Newcastle want to get Champions League football, but most importantly, end their long wait to win a trophy, then Guimaraes is key to it all.

The Brazil international thinks differently than any other Newcastle player and he has outstanding box-to-box talents.

Even if a team came in with a crazy offer for any of Newcastle’s key players, given the wealth of the club now, there’s no way anyone of need leaves.
