Newcastle United’s hopes of signing Timo Werner could be dented with Ralf Rangnick now keen to bring him over to Manchester United.

German newspaper Bild claim that Ralf Rangnick wants to take Werner from Chelsea to Manchester United in 2022.

Rangnick signed Werner for RB Leipzig having been impressed with his pace and goal threat with Stuttgart.

Werner became a favourite at Leipzig, scoring 95 goals in 159 games for the Bundesliga side.

Leipzig then sold Werner to Chelsea for £48million, and the goals haven’t flowed quite as freely in West London.

With just 15 goals in 64 games for Chelsea, Werner has had a frustrating time in goal whilst wearing a Blues shirt.

If Chelsea can recoup a large part of their outlay for Werner, they may be willing to sell – and Rangnick is prepared to make a move.

Blow for Newcastle over Werner

Bild reported in October that Newcastle would love to bring Werner to St James’ Park.

Newcastle were taken over by PIF in October and may now have the funds to pull off a deal for Werner.

Yet with the Magpies battling against relegation, a January move may not appeal to Werner.

If any club can tempt Werner away from Chelsea, it may well be his former boss Rangnick.

That’s a major concern for Newcastle, who may now find it difficult to compete for the German striker’s signature.
