Thomas Tuchel could join Newcastle United or West Ham United in the near future – at least that’s what Stan Collymore is predicting.

Tuchel guided Chelsea to winning the Champions League in 2021, taking over from Frank Lampard and almost immediately taking them to success.

The German couldn’t really challenge Liverpool or Manchester City last season, with some off-field problems partly to blame too, but he has now lost his job.

A shaky start to the season and a less-than-ideal start to the relationship with Chelsea’s new owners means Tuchel has gone.

Tuchel has been replaced by Graham Potter and it’s unclear just where the former Paris Saint-Germain boss will end up.

Tuchel took both PSG and Chelsea to the Champions League final yet finds himself out of work.

You would assume that there will be a number of clubs queuing up for Tuchel; as soon as vacancies emerge, he will surely be in the mix.

Could Tuchel stay in the Premier League?

There were some links to Manchester United over the summer but they are now settled with Erik ten Hag.

Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal all have settled managers too, so a route back into the Premier League is tough.

Pundit Stan Collymore has now told The Sunday People (11/09, p61) that he isn’t sure top European clubs will be going for Tuchel.

Instead, Collymore believes Tuchel’s next club could be Newcastle United, West Ham United or Aston Villa.

Collymore claim all three clubs can offer a long-term project and real security, as well as the cash that could tempt Tuchel into a deal.

“I don’t see him automatically getting one of the big European jobs any time soon,” said Collymore. “Maybe in Italy, a Juventus or one of the Milan clubs might be looking to make a change during the World Cup and they will be interested.”

“But he can’t hang around too long for fear of becoming yesterday’s man and I wonder if his most likely destination will be one of our B+ clubs, such as Newcastle, West Ham or Aston Villa.”

“Eddie Howe, David Moyes and Steven Gerrard could well be the ones looking over their shoulders and their clubs could afford to pay Tuchel £8million-£10million-a-year. The fact they could all offer a long-term project as well might tick boxes for him because the pressure wouldn’t be what it has been at Chelsea. Time will tell, but don’t be surprised if we see him again sometime soon,” he added.

Howe seems settled at Newcastle and we can’t see the Magpies making a managerial change any time soon, even if they may have plans for a bigger name down the line.

West Ham also seem quite happy with David Moyes but a patchy start to the league campaign means the Scot isn’t completely safe.

Aston Villa are the most likely of the three to make a change soon given Steven Gerrard’s struggles, but we doubt Tuchel would fancy a move to Villa Park right now.

Tuchel may now be looking at a break from football to recharge his batteries, but you can be sure that another job won’t be too far away.
