Newcastle are trying to sign promising Lyon striker Myziane Maolida, with The Mirror reporting they are negotiating with the French side.
So it is notable that Maolida was not even named on Lyon’s substitutes bench for their friendly with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge yesterday evening.
Maolida is a France youth international and has nine goals in 19 games at under-19 level.
The Paris born 19-year-old has three first team goals for Lyon to his name, with one in the Europa League last season.
Maolida would be an interesting signing for Newcastle although expectations would have to be carefully managed.
He would not be expected to be a regular starter right away, but if he could begin to start contributing goals as the season goes on, it would start to look like a smart deal.
