Newcastle United supporters will be hoping for a busy summer when the transfer window re-opens.

Tom Cairney of Fulham celebrates following his team's victory in the Premier League match between Fulham FC and Everton FC at Craven Cottage on April 13, 2019 in London, United Kingdom.

Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle is working wonders on-loan at West Bromwich Albion this season and it seems he could potentially be a part of a summer swap.

The Northern Echo recently claimed that the Magpies want to swap their Championship hitman for Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney following the London club’s relegation to the second tier of Engish football.

Once again, Gayle is proving his worth in the Championship and he could potentially help the Baggies earn promotion if they can win their up and coming playoff matches.

If Newcastle can potentially pull off a swap involving both players then it would prove to be a stroke of genius by owner Mike Ashley and those involved.

It is obvious to one and all that Gayle is not suited to Rafa Benitez’s system and he is a player that is perhaps too good for the Championship but can’t cut it in the Premier League.

Whilst Cairney’s performance in a Fulham shirt this season may not stand out to one and all, there is a player in there and Benitez is the manager to get it out of him.

Like many players at Craven Cottage, the Scotsman suffered as a result of bad management and signings, but his talents, particularly on the ball is there for all to see.

There is no doubt that Cairney would provide something different when comparing him with the likes of Mo Diame, Sean Longstaff, Issac Hayden or KI.

The Fulham man likes to get on the ball and push his team into the attacking third. If need be he can carry or drive with the ball, not forgetting that his biggest strengths are his passing and technical ability.

Whilst Cairney may not be a standout name or star, he would be a gem of a signing for Newcastle and one that can provide that attacking spark from the middle of the park.
