Mikel Merino has told the Chronicle that everything has gone perfectly at Newcastle United to date.

Merino has played a key role for Newcastle to date, with his passing ability catching the eye.

And the 21-year-old has suggested that he is loving life at St. James’ Park.

“Of course I would have taken this first month,” Merino said.

“It would have been perfect if we’d won all the matches but the way we are playing, the way the team thinks about playing football, the penetration and concentration – all these things are perfect at the moment.

“I’m really, really happy to be here, enjoying every training and every match.”

Initially there were some concerns about whether Newcastle had the quality to compete back at Premier League level, but these doubts have been cast aside in recent times.

Newcastle have won their last three matches in succession, and now occupy fourth spot in the Premier League table.

Merino’s form has been a major reason behind Newcastle’s improvement, with optimism building at the North East club.

The Magpies are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Brighton & Hove Albion.
