West Bromwich Albion’s deal for Daniel Sturridge will be doubly frustrating for Newcastle United, as it means that they are going to miss out on two targets.

Newcastle held discussions with Sturridge, but West Brom managed to persuade him to come to the Hawthorns.

The Northern Echo claim that Sturridge picked West Brom over Newcastle for footballing reasons, as he felt he could score more prolifically under Alan Pardew than Rafael Benitez.

The Telegraph suggested that Jurgen Klopp’s side would only loan out one of Sturridge or Ings this month, otherwise they would have been left short of options.

And West Brom appear to have taken two potential strikers off the table for Newcastle, by signing Sturridge.
