Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle has hinted to the Birmingham Mail that a permanent move to West Bromwich Albion could happen.

Newcastle and West Brom traded strikers this summer, with Salomon Rondon and Gayle both moving on loan.

Rondon has made a positive impression at Newcastle, while Gayle has been in wonderful form for West Brom.

And Gayle has suggested that a longer-term switch to the Hawthorns could now be a possibility.

“It could be on the cards, but for me the most important thing is getting promoted this season and finishing in the top two,” the striker said.

“We all know what we’ve got to do and we’ve got a lot of hard work before the end of the season to do that.

“I’m loving it here at the moment and hopefully that continues.”

Gayle hit a hat-trick for West Brom at the weekend to take his total to 13 goals for the season.

West Brom battered Rotherham United 4-0 to strengthen their bid for promotion, with Gayle playing a starring role.

There have been Newcastle fans who have questioned Rafael Benitez’s decision to let Gayle go, as they have struggled going forward this term.

Newcastle drew 0-0 with Fulham at the weekend, and a finisher like Gayle may have helped their cause to score.
