Newcastle United are unsure about a move to try and make Zinedine Zidane their new manager once Steve Bruce moves on.
That’s according to The Mirror, who claim that Zidane has been mentioned as a potential target for Newcastle’s new owners.
Bruce is expected to lose his job imminently as this exciting Newcastle era begins. Bruce just isn’t PIF’s man, and they’re expected to move for a new boss quickly.
A number of names have already been touted, with Zidane the latest to be linked with a move to St James’ Park.
It’s claimed that Zidane’s name has been mentioned inside Newcastle.
However, the report states that ‘there is little appetite’ to appoint Zidane despite his big name and standing in the game.
Would Zidane be the right man for Newcastle?
On the face of it, Zidane could be a massive coup for Newcastle.
Zidane won two La Liga titles as well as three Champions League crowns at Real Madrid, bringing amazing success to the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Frenchman won more than 70% of his games in his first spell at Real. After returning in 2019, Zidane then won more than 60% of his games.

200 wins in 320 games is pretty amazing from Zidane, but you can understand if Newcastle don’t think he is right for this specific project.
Zidane balanced big egos and personalities at Real Madrid. That gave him a reputation as a man manager rather than a tactician, which may be harsh.
Newcastle are not in win-now mode though. This is going to be a real project, and yes, spending big money will help, but this won’t be an overnight success.
Landing a manager who wants to stick around for that project and and build for the future would be great, and it’s unclear whether Zidane would be ideal for that.
