Newcastle United are interested in snapping up Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Stephen McMullan and have already made contact over a deal.
That’s according to The Sun, who claim that Newcastle are trying to secure McMullan’s signature this summer.
It’s stated that Newcastle have made contact to try and tee up the signing of McMullan at the end of the season.
The Magpies would hope to prove to McMullan that the pathway to first-team action exists at Newcastle in the years to come.
The report does note that other clubs could end up joining the race for McMullan but Newcastle are the current favourites.
Newcastle snapped up a young goalkeeper last summer as Jude Smith (pictured below) arrived from East Fife.
Yet the Magpies could now chase another young option between the sticks with McMullan a wanted man.

Who is Newcastle United target Stephen McMullan?
McMullan emerged in the Warrenpoint ranks over in Northern Ireland and made 10 first-team appearances for the club.
Fleetwood Town ended up pouncing for McMullan at the end of last season, handing him a two-year deal.
Yet in January of this year, Fleetwood gave McMullan a new long-term deal having shown encouraging progress.
That should mean Fleetwood are able to negotiate a decent fee for the young goalkeeper if Newcastle firm up their interest.
The 18-year-old can play for both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland at international level – and already has, to an extent.
McMullan has one cap for the Republic of Ireland Under-18’s and one cap for the Northern Ireland Under-19’s.
That means a big decision awaits McMullan over his international future, but also over his club future with Newcastle now pushing for his signature.
