Stefan de Vrij has been heavily linked with Newcastle United and the Inter Milan defender has commented on his future.
DAZN reporter Orazio Accomando reported in January that De Vrij was closing in on a move to Newcastle.
Accomando suggested that Newcastle are close to a deal for De Vrij to arrive on a free transfer this summer.
De Vrij is out of contract this summer and looks set to leave Inter for nothing at the end of the season.
The Times noted in 2021 that Newcastle had identified De Vrij as a key target after their big takeover but no deal has materialised since then.
Links to De Vrij have cooled down in recent weeks though and a move to Newcastle doesn’t seem like an absolutely sure thing.

De Vrij has now commented on his future with his contract just months away from expiring.
As quoted by Fabrizio Romano, De Vrij admitted that he has a ‘very good relationship’ with the Inter board.
De Vrij added that talks are still ongoing, seemingly leaving the door open for an extended stay at the San Siro.
The Dutch defender added that his agent has told him that Spanish clubs are interested in him, meaning Newcastle have some competition.
De Vrij, 31, wouldn’t exactly be a signing for the future at Newcastle.
Yet the Magpies have shown that they will pay for proven quality with deals for the likes of Nick Pope and Kieran Trippier.
De Vrij on a free transfer could be very appealing, especially alongside a fellow Dutchman in Sven Botman.
Whilst Newcastle could feasibly negotiate a pre-contract agreement right now, it seems that they will face a wait until De Vrij makes a firm decision on his future.
