Newcastle United welcome Leeds United to St James’ Park on Friday night.

Magpies midfielder Jonjo Shelvey spoke to the Chronicle about his side’s upcoming clash with Leeds, highlighting how he expects a superb atmosphere at St James’ Park for what will be ‘great occasion’.
Newcastle currently sit in second position in the Championship table, with a place inside the automatic promotion spots all but wrapped up, whilst Garry Monk’s men still have a lot of work to do if they are to finish inside the play-off places, with just five points separating them and seventh placed Fulham.
And Shelvey stressed the importance of all three points, rather than his side’s performance itself, highlighting how much he is looking forward to the kick-off, as quoted by the Chronicle:
“When we went down to Elland Road it was bouncing. It is going to be a great game to play in and a great occasion. It doesn’t matter how you play on the night at this crucial stage of the season, it’s about getting the points. That’s what we need to do against Leeds. Friday night is another game live on Sky Sports and one we are looking forward to.”

The 25-year-old moved to Tyneside from Swansea City in January 2016, for a fee believed to be in the region of £12 million, and has since established himself as one of the Magpies’ important players, making 57 appearances for the Toon.
And Rafa Benitez will need him to be at his very best over the next month or so, if his Newcastle side are to have any chance of winning the Championship title.
