Aston Villa suffered another heavy blow last night with their 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United.
Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles
Magpies skipper Jamaal Lascelles spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s impressive victory over Aston Villa at St James’ Park last night, and highlighted how his team overpowered Steve Bruce’s men., as quoted by the club’s official website.
The two teams’ fortunes could not be more contrasting so far this season, with Rafa Benitez’ side sitting comfortably at the top of the Championship table, while the Villains are languishing in 17th spot, just six points clear of 22nd placed Wigan Athletic.
Bruce’s side seem to be totally devoid of any kind of passion or fight, and they must now realise that they are in a genuine relegation scrap, and that they are by no means ‘too good’ to go down.
And Lascelles spoke to reporters after last night’s game, praising his side”s team ethic and chemistry, as quoted by NUFC.co.uk:
“On paper, Villa are excellent, and they have a good manager. But we showed how our team chemistry and work ethic can overpower teams – and that’s exactly what we did tonight.”

It is incredible to think that the two sides can be at such opposite ends of the spectrum as far as their performances this term are concerned.
They have similar transfer budgets, are supported in equal numbers, and have a wealth of international talent amongst their ranks.
And it cannot be long before serious questions are asked of the job being done at Villa Park by Steve Bruce, although his players must surely take most of the blame for the manner in which they continue to crumble in the face of adversity.
