The Magpies winger says the Spanish boss always leaves his players wanting to do more for him.
Newcastle United winger Matt Ritchie has revealed in an interview with the Daily Mail that Rafa Benitez’s best man-management technique is to never praise his players too much so that they are always left wanting to do more for their manager.
Benitez’s Newcastle are flying this season since their relegation, having lost just five of their first 22 Championship games of the season.
they will sit a point clear at the top of the table at Christmas, thanks to a run which has seen them win 11 of their last 13.
Ritchie has been a key component of Benitez’s side since his big-money arrival from Bournemouth in the summer.
The Scotland international has racked up five goals and six assists in 27 appearances in all competitions this season and has become a true fan favourite at St. James’ Park.
Speaking to the Daily Mail about Benitez’s management, Ritchie revealed that the key technique the Spaniard uses to get the most out of his players is to never praise them too much, always leaving them wanting to impress their boss further.
The winger said: “How can I say it? It’s like, he doesn’t praise you too much. He always leaves you wanting to do more for him.
“That’s it, the job is never done, don’t congratulate yourself, tomorrow we go again. It’s brilliant man-management.”
Ritchie, Benitez, and Newcastle supporters will all be hoping that the Champions League-winning manager can continue to get the best out of his side after Christmas.
Aside from some sporadic inconsistencies in their performance, the Magpies have shown all the signs thus far that they have what it takes to hold on to top spot for the remainder of the campaign.
