Two of the biggest footballing cities clash after the international break.

Leeds United have gone into the international break in great form, which saw them climb up to sixth position in the Championship table.

Their next game in the second-tier after the international break will be a massive game against Newcastle United. The Magpies are top of the Championship at the moment and are most pundits favourites to earn automatic promotion to the Premier League.

What this game is however is a clash between two of the country’s biggest footballing cities.

One Newcastle player is in no doubt of the rivalry that may be present when they face Leeds this weekend.

USA full-back DeAndre Yedlin has just featured for his nation against Mexico, a true sporting rivalry.

But he is excited for Newcastle v Leeds. He told the Chronicle:

“Anytime there is rivalry it gives it that extra spice. But at the end of the day for us it’s another opportunity for us to get three points.

“So hopefully we can do that. It’s a big game. And I know that every game for Newcastle is big, but the next one is always the biggest.

“We’ll all be looking on and trying to get a win. But we know it won’t be easy.”

Leeds will no doubt be wanting to send a message that their promotion push is serious with a strong result against most people’s champions elect.

Newcastle on the other hand will be looking to cement their standing as the division’s top team in a game many would like to see become a Premier League fixture in the future.
