Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle and Karl Darlow celebrate
“The main thing is for me to go into each game and help out the team, whichever way it is. I have to do what I can, whether it’s assisting, scoring, running into the channels or getting the team up the pitch. It’s a great feeling to be top of the table at Christmas, and it’ll make the next few days that bit nicer. It’ll be fantastic to play every couple of days, because that’s what you want to do. It’s fantastic to go out and play in front of 52,000, and away from home, they’re selling every ticket we get. They are good times at the moment.”
Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle in action
Many had questioned the hefty transfer fee that Newcastle parted with to bring Gayle to the north-east from Crystal Palace in the summer.
The 26-year-old has more than justified that price-tag, however, and has led the line for his side in superb style, scoring an impressive 17 goals in 18 league appearances.
His presence in the side must be a huge confidence boost for his teammates, especially when they are competing in a tight game, where one chance could decide the outcome.
Next up for Newcastle is back-to-back home games against Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest respectively.
