Newcastle United’s 2012 move for Papiss Cisse has not been topped since.
Time is running out for Newcastle United to sign a striker this transfer window, and if they do, the new man has his work cut out to emulate the impact made by Papiss Cisse in 2012.
This is because no Premier League striker has bettered the performances of the Senegal international since, including strikers signed for a lot more money.
Research from Bet Bonus Code shows Cisse has made the biggest impact of any striker signed in the January transfer window over the past five seasons.
Cisse signed for £12 million and netted 13 goals and provided two assists. This worked out at a bargain £800,000 per goal/assist.
Nikica Jelavic made a similarly strong impact for Everton in 2012, but his tally of nine goals fell behind Cisse’s impressive 13.
Manolo Gabbiadini and Gabriel Jesus made the biggest impressions in the second half of last season, but they paled in comparison to Cisse at Newcastle. Gabbiadini scored four times and Cisse seven.
This season Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez has a tough task to emulate Cisse, as does big money addition at Everton Cenk Tosun.
Newcastle’s only error was not immediately cashing in on Cisse, who was never quite able to produce with the same consistency as he did in his first few months.
Now 32, he is playing in the Chinese Super League for Shandong Luneng.
