Newcastle United have been linked with both Manchester City’s Eliaquim Mangala and Leicester City’s Islam Slimani.

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United are chasing deals for both Eliaquim Mangala and Islam Slimani in the next two days, and if they can complete the transfers it will at least give some reason for positivity at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle are still looking to upgrade most areas of their squad, and Manchester City defender Mangala and Leicester striker Slimani are said to be on their wishlist.

While the pair are hardly the most exciting of additions, they would improve Newcastle’s squad.

City player Eliaquim Mangala reacts during the Premier League match between Manchester City and West Ham United at Etihad Stadium on December 3, 2017 in Manchester, England.

Mangala may not suit City’s passing style, but he does possess a good amount of defensive quality and could make Newcastle’s defence far more solid.

Slimani, meanwhile, looks more of a goal threat than either Joselu or Dwight Gayle.

Slimani has hit five goals for Leicester this season, despite only starting on seven occasions.

And if Newcastle could complete the double-swoop it would at least provide some reason for optimism at St. James’ Park, which is badly needed at the moment.
