Newcastle United are said to be interested in PSG stopper Kevin Trapp.

Newcastle United bringing in Kevin Trapp from PSG would be a strange signing for Rafael Benitez’s side.

Newcastle transfer budget for the summer is not yet clear, with Mike Ashley’s position at the club currently uncertain.

Newcastle are the subject of a takeover bid, but details of the buyout are very murky right now.

If the takeover does go through, then Newcastle are likely to have more money to spend, but whether the BZG group are able to buy the Magpies or not, Trapp’s addition would still be bizarre.

If there is one position where Newcastle are well stocked it is in goal.

However, the Daily Express claim that Newcastle are thinking of snapping up Trapp this summer.

The PSG goalkeeper is undoubtedly a talent, but he is not one that Newcastle need.

Benitez already has Martin Dubravka is his side’s number one, and the Slovakian has been very solid ever since arriving at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle’s other options in net are also strong, with Karl Darlow, Rob Elliot and Freddie Woodman all highly regarded.

And if Newcastle did bring in Trapp then it would be hard not to feel that they had invested money on an area of their squad which they didn’t need any urgent upgrades on.
