The former Chesterfield man has earned rave reviews for seemingly doing very little according to statistics, and Newcastle can do better.
Hull City’s Sam Clucas in action with Chelsea’s Diego Costa
With Newcastle United planning for their return to the Premier League, many players have been rumoured and linked with the club – one of those players is recently relegated Hull City winger Sam Clucas,
The Magpies had scouted the winger, as reports The Guardian, earlier this season and rumours that the club may pounce for Clucas aren’t really going away – even though a case could be made as to why Newcastle should think twice about signing off on the deal.
While Clucas has proved to be a useful outlet for Hull, he’s not at the level of a team that’s looking to break into the top eight of the Premier League, which Newcastle will be desperately aspiring to do.
Clucas is the sort of winger that will gladly run himself into the ground for the club, winning a lot of plaudits for doing so, and will track back, get stuck in, and give his all for the team – which is all well and good, but his end product needs a lot more work before he can be considered for a move of this magnitude.

In 40 appearances for Hull this season at time of writing, Clucas has scored two goals the whole campaign and assisted just once, which for a winger – even a winger in a team fighting relegation – aren’t exactly dream figures.
Clucas has also racked up nine yellow cards and one red this campaign, suggesting that his temperament is a concern too – maybe one concern too many, especially for a sum that would probably be eight figures in length.
While Newcastle may have scouted him extensively, Magpies fans will be hoping that that’s as far as it goes, as Rafael Benitez and Newcastle can put that money towards someone more likely to make an impact.
And that would suit Hull and their fanbase just fine as they look to bounce back next season.
