If Watford snap up Salomon Rondon then Newcastle United would be wise to move for Troy Deeney.

According to ESPN, Watford striker Troy Deeney was Newcastle United’s top target in January, and Rafael Benitez would be wise to make a repeat move in the summer.

Newcastle were unable to get a deal over the line for Deeney four months ago, but they may have more luck at the end of the season.

According to The Sun, Watford are leading the race for Salomon Rondon of West Bromwich Albion.

If Rondon does sign at Vicarage Road then he immediately looks like he could be a natural replacement for Deeney, and that could leave Javi Gracia open to selling the former Walsall man.

Newcastle are still on the hunt for a front man, with Benitez keen to improve his striking options.

And Deeney could fit in well at St. James’ Park, as his work-rate and power would suit Benitez’s style.

Deeney has failed to score particularly prolifically for Watford this term, with just six goals in all competitions.

And that could lead to the Hornets being open to do business with Newcastle for the forward this summer, if Benitez does make another move.
