Sturridge has struggled with injury in recent times, but there is no questioning his ability when fit.
And Newcastle will surely not have the chance to sign a player with more quality than Sturridge this summer.
Sturridge’s arrival at St. James’ Park could elevate them to the next level, and Newcastle should consider signing the England international a risk worth taking.
If Benitez can keep Sturridge off the treatment table, he would have one of the most feared strikers in the Premier League.
And, even if Sturridge’s fitness problems do persist, the Magpies should still have enough cover to cope.
Newcastle are expected to sign Tammy Abraham, and they already have Dwight Gayle in their ranks.
Benitez, therefore, should see the arrival of Sturridge as a major opportunity – and if Newcastle have the funds to finance the transfer, it is one which they should go through with.
