Newcastle United have reportedly offered a contract to Willy Caballero.

According to a report in the Times, Newcastle United have offered a contract to Willy Caballero, but they would be better off standing by Karl Darlow.
Caballero may be more experienced at Premier League level, but the Manchester City stopper has hardly looked infallible.

Indeed, there are question marks over whether Caballero is an upgrade on Darlow at all.
Rafael Benitez may have some doubts over Darlow, but he did a relatively solid job over the past campaign.
And unless a serious upgrade is on offer then Darlow surely deserves his chance at the top level.

Of course, if Newcastle could bring in a stopper of the quality of Joe Hart, then sacrificing Darlow would make sense.
But getting rid of the 26-year-old to bring in an ageing Caballero seems like a risk which Newcastle simply don’t need to take.
