Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing Everton’s Yannick Bolasie who was on-loan at Aston Villa earlier on in the season.
A big summer awaits Newcastle United and one of the first names to be touted for a move to St James’ Park is Everton’s Yannick Bolasie, who recently was on loan at Championship side Aston Villa.
The 29-year-old initially joined Villa on a season-long loan, but he cut that short during the January transfer window [The Guardian] as the Everton ace struggled to prove his worth for the second tier side.
Now, The Sun claim that the Magpies, along with fellow Premier League side Southampton, are weighing up a move for the tricky winger, who moved to Belgian side Anderlecht after that Villa loan spell.
Given how Newcastle play, and the limited budget they work with, signing someone like Bolasie would be a mistake and his time at Villa should serve as a warning as to why they shouldn’t add him to their squad.
Added with that, at 29, he isn’t a player for a future and given how the likes of Ayoze Perez, Sean Longstaff and Miguel Almiron have performed this term, youth is the way forward for Newcastle.
During his spell at Villa, Bolaise looked leggy and he didn’t have that drive or sharpness is his game. Added with that, at the time, Villa, who are now in the play-off final, were struggling in the league and Bolasie was part of that poor form.
The DR Congo winger failed to cement his place in Villa’s starting XI. And players like Jonathan Kodjia, Albert Adomah and Anwar El Ghazi found themselves ahead of him in the pecking order.
Nonetheless, if owner Mike Ashley adds players to Newcastle’s squad in the summer then it’ll bode well for the future because it’ll increase their chances of pushing up the table.
The Magpies are building a very good team in the North East, but they need that extra push in the transfer market in order to go one better next term.
