Newcastle United are believed to be interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva.
According to a report in the Northern Echo, Newcastle United are interested in signing Lucas Leiva from Liverpool.
Rafael Benitez is a known fan of Lucas, having linked up with the Brazilian at Anfield previously.
And a move for Lucas appears to be a much better option than making a bid for Manchester City’s Fernando.

Newcastle were said to be interested in signing Fernando for £10 million (The Sun), early on after their promotion to the Premier League.
However, with Lucas available for half the price, the 30-year-old looks to be a far greater value for money signing.
Lucas would bring many of the qualities that Fernando would add at St. James’ Park, and already has a rapport with Benitez.

He could be a crucial addition of the North East side, as they look to complete back in the top flight.
Newcastle are known to be aiming to add a range of players, as Benitez does not want to just avoid relegation next season – he has his sights set far higher.
And Lucas’ arrival at St. James’ Park would be a signal of Newcastle’s intent ahead of the new campaign.
