Newcastle United are said to have been offered the chance to sign Martin Skrtel.

Newcastle United may have been offered Martin Skrtel, according to Fotomac, but there is no way they should sign the veteran centre-back.
Newcastle were informed about Skrtel’s availability by his agent, with his time at Fenerbahce seemingly coming to an end.
The 33-year-old could be available on a cut price deal this summer, and a return to England may appeal for the former Liverpool man.

However, Newcastle should not offer him a route out of Turkey, as they need better.
Skrtel has previously been a very capable Premier League defender, but at 33, he is now entering the twilight of his career.
And Newcastle already have some excellent defensive options to call upon.

Florian Lejeune’s and Jamaal Lascelles’ partnership has the potential to be a really solid foundation for Newcastle to build their side upon over the years ahead.
And if Rafael Benitez does want to bring in cover for his central defensive pair, then he should look to bring in someone with far more years ahead of them than Skrtel.
