Newcastle United should make move for William Carvalho on a free transfer

Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez was said to be interested in William Carvalho back in 2017.

It was only last year that Newcastle United were linked with Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, but found his asking price of £39 million too expensive.

Rafael Benitez was said to be interested in the defensive midfielder by the Chronicle, but Newcastle were unable to get a deal over the line.

However, if the Magpies go back in for the defensive midfielder now, they may just stand a chance of landing him.

Record have reported how Carvalho is looking to terminate his contract at Sporting, which could make him available on a free transfer.

If Carvalho is to become a free agent, Newcastle should surely be at the front of the queue for his signature.

Carvalho could be a stunning addition at St. James’ Park, and he would bring both power and presence to Newcastle’s midfield.

Newcastle would almost certainly have competition for Carvalho’s signature, if he was available for free.

But Benitez should do everything in his power to bring the Portuguese international to Tyneside, if he does become a free agent.
