Newcastle United were said to be interested in signing Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho.
If Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho continues to struggle for game-time, Newcastle United should be going all out to sign him in the summer.
Newcastle were said to be tracking Iheanacho in the January transfer window by the Daily Mirror, but were unable to get a deal over the line.
Leicester wanted to keep hold of the Nigerian at that stage, and it was hardly a surprise.
Iheanacho was just starting to show what he could do at the King Power Stadium at the beginning of 2018, with a run of four goals in two FA Cup games, after initially struggling following a £25 million from Manchester City.
However, Iheanacho has continued to struggle for appearances of late. Iheanacho has made just one Premier League start in Leicester’s last six matches, and only has three starts all season.
Newcastle should now aim to bring Iheanacho in over the summer, he if continues to be overlooked.
The striker has netted seven goals in the past four months, and he appears to be ready to play regularly now.
Leicester have other attacking options though, which could leave Iheanacho frustrated.
And Newcastle need to keep tabs on the striking prospect, as he could be a great addition at St. James’ Park, and a potential move to Tyneside may be becoming more appealing with every week he is required to sit on the bench at Leicester.
