Southampton are in talks to sign the 23-year-old, but should Newcastle United intervene?
According to Sky Sports, Southampton are in talks with Atletico Madrid to sign Luciano Vietto.
With Newcastle United also in need of a striker, should manager Rafael Benitez look to hijack the deal and bring him to St James’s Park?

The 23-year-old Argentine was linked with a move to Newcastle in 2014 when he was at Villarreal but a transfer to the Magpies never materialised.
But if Atletico are willing to sell the Argentine hitman – who netted six goals in 14 Primera Division starts during a loan spell with Sevilla last season – then Benitez should certainly join the queue.
Dwight Gayle might have scored over 20 Championship goals last season but such impressive feats mean little in the Premier League, and the Spanish manager will know that.
The North-East club have been frustrated in their attempts to bolster the striking options this summer, with Tammy Abraham joining Swansea City after weeks of speculation linking him with a move to Benitez’s squad.
Southampton might have an advantage over Newcastle regarding Vietto, with Mauricio Pellegrino also an Argentine, but the fact is that United is a bigger club than the Saints and it is difficult to imagine that the South American would not even consider a switch to St James’s Park.
