Newcastle United were strongly linked with Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney during the summer transfer window.

Newcastle United should re-visit their interest in Fulham’s Tom Cairney in the January transfer window.

Newcastle launched a £20 million bid for Cairney according to the Independent, but it was rejected by Fulham.

The Cottagers, at that stage, were among the favourites to be promoted to the Premier League.

And Cairney, himself, stated to the Chronicle that he was happy to stay with Fulham as he was so settled at the club.

However, Fulham have failed to live up to expectations so far this season – and currently sit in 15th place in the Championship.

While the Cottagers’ promotion hopes are far from over, they will need to improve hugely, if they are to move into the top six shake-up.

And if Fulham have shown no signs of improvement by January, then Newcastle may become a more appealing option to Cairney.

The Magpies have performed well at the top tier so far, and have already put distance between themselves and the bottom three.

And the lure of the Premier League may become too much for Cairney to turn down, should Newcastle make another offer, with Fulham struggling.
