Back in August Newcastle United completed one of their biggest ever transfer deals. The club had signed Michael Owen from Real Madrid, after his time in the Spanish capital had failed to be a success.
The move was for a club record fee and Newcastle fans were extremely excited about the move, with 20,000 fans at St James’ Park for his unveiling.
If Newcastle get promoted this season, they should try and top that.
The Magpies are looking likely to earn a place back in the Premier League for next season, judging by their current form and placement in the second tier.
If they do manage to return to the top-flight, then they would be pulling off a coup if they made a move for Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge.
The prolific goalscorer has seen his career at Liverpool sidelined for many reasons. Injury was his first issue, but he now simply does not fit into the plans of Jurgen Klopp.

Newcastle would be bringing in a top striker if they could agree a deal with Liverpool for the player next season.
Owen’s time at St James’ was disappointing. Injury halted him from having a major impact at the club. There would, of course, be a fear that Sturridge might do the same.
But if he stayed fit, Newcastle fans know very well he would be a massive hit on Tyneside.
