Should Newcastle United boss consider bringing in Diafra Sakho from West Ham United?
Newcastle United need two things: a new owner and a new striker. One of those could be in place by January while the other might well follow.
Magpies boss Rafael Benitez only has Joselu, Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic at his disposal. Problem is, none of them are brilliant.
Joselu, a £5 million summer signing from Stoke, would have at least five Premier League goals to his name instead of two if he could finish. Gayle has never been a prolific marksman in the top flight and Mitrovic is one more unsavoury incident away from being banished to the darkest corner of St James’s Park by Benitez.
Indeed, the Newcastle manager needs another number nine and the Spaniard should consider the idea of bringing in West Ham United’s Diafra Sakho.
Ask West Ham fans about Sakho and they might reel through their four-letter curse words when describing him, but the Senegal international remains a talented striker and one who would improve Benitez’s options.
The 27-year-old has three goals in two starts for the Irons this season and has reportedly been offered a new contract, after seeing a deadline-day exit blocked by manager Slaven Bilic.
He is on the goal trail once more and if he can maintain his form until January then Newcastle could do a lot worse. At the moment he is out of contract in 2018 so West Ham might have to accept little money for him, because the alternative means losing him for free.
