Newcastle should pay attention to reports Crystal Palace may cash in on Christian Benteke.

Newcastle United paid big to bring in Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace this summer and it has been a big success.

Now they should pay attention to the Eagles’ latest potential striker sale, with The Mirror claiming Palace could cash in on the Belgian international to raise funds.

It’s far from ideal for Benteke after signing just six months ago from Liverpool, but this is a result of a change in management and fresh approach, with Sam Allardyce looking to overhaul the squad.

Benteke, 26, has a solid record in English football, scoring more than 40 goals for Aston Villa and scoring eight goals in 18 games for Palace this season.

Even in last season’s ‘disappointing’ campaign at Liverpool he managed to score 10 times for the club, despite being a substitute for much of the second half of the season under Jurgen Klopp.

It is unclear how much money Palace would want for him, the full £30 million they paid or a little less, but Newcastle have the money, thanks to cashing in big time on Moussa Sissoko and Georginio Wijnaldum.

Benteke could potentially rip up the Championship, and transform Newcastle’s promotion challenge from a probability into a sure thing.

He could replace Aleksandr Mitrovic, who was last month linked by The Mail with moving the other way with Crystal Palace interested. A swap deal may potentially cut Newcastle’s required outlay to sign Benteke.

It would be ambitious, but Rafa Benitez has the big name value and capability to help persuade Benteke to make the move, and it is one Newcastle should go all in on.
