The Liverpool man has been told he can leave Anfield, and has reportedly been offered to Watford.
Following reports from the Mirror that Watford have been offered Liverpool’s Lazar Markovic at a cut price fee of £12m, it might be wise for Rafael Benitez to sit up and take notice, as the winger could be a brilliant asset for his Newcastle United side.
The 23-year-old was signed by the Anfield outfit in 2014 for £20m, as reported by the Telegraph, but while he has failed to live up to expectations on Merseyside, out on loan, Markovic has shown that he’s a very talented player with bags of potential and ability.
Hull City’s Lazar Markovic scores their first goal
The Serbia international spent the second half of the 2016/17 season on loan at Hull City and scored twice in 12 Premier League matches for Marco Silva’s former side, and it appears that there’s a chance they could be reunited at Vicarage Road, with Silva now in charge of Watford.
However, it seems that Watford are pushing for a loan move at present while Liverpool want to sell, but as that’s being thrashed out, it could be enough to prompt Newcastle to pounce and snap up the winger for the fee that the Hornets were quoted.
Newcastle are looking to strengthen all over the pitch as they try to re-establish themselves as a top half Premier League outfit, and a player of Markovic’s quality could be a valuable asset to the Magpies as they seek to improve their fortunes.
Ultimately it seems that Watford hold the majority of the cards, but unless they can find a way to meet Liverpool’s demands, it’s very possible for someone to swoop in – and there’s no reason why that can’t be Newcastle.
