Newcastle United have been chasing Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo for much of the summer so far.

According to a report in The Sun, Newcastle United have been told by Liverpool that they can only sign Sheyi Ojo if they put a buy-back clause in the deal.

Newcastle have been linked with Ojo for much of the summer so far, and Liverpool are prepared to let the youngster leave.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s side are cautious that Ojo could develop into a future star – and want themselves protected if he does.

Liverpool, therefore, are said to want to set a price with Newcastle at which they can buy Ojo back, if he does fulfil his potential.

These clauses can often prove to be stumbling blocks in transfers, but for Newcastle it still makes sense to do the transfer.

Rafael Benitez’s side were interested in taking Ojo on loan, as reported by the Shields Gazette, earlier in the summer.

And Newcastle should agree to this deal and then treat it like a loan.

If Ojo succeeds and Liverpool re-sign him in a year’s time, then Newcastle will still have had the benefit of having the England youth international’s quality in their squad for a season, and will be able to make a profit.

And, if Ojo takes time to get up to speed, then Newcastle will have the bonus of being able to keep hold of the winger for longer than first planned, when their initial season-long loan move was plotted.
