If PSG let Kevin Trapp go, expect to see Newcastle’s name linked with the German international.
Joachim Low is a lucky man. Not only to Germany boast some of the finest selection of outfield players in the world across each and every position, the Nationalmannschaft boss also boasts a wide array of top class goalkeepers.
So much so that Kevin Trapp may need to leave Paris Saint-Germain in January to keep his hopes of reserving a seat on that plane to Russia alive. And according to The Sun, Crystal Palace are offering the former Frankfurt goalkeeper the chance to get regular first-team football ahead of the World Cup.
Trapp has lost his place in PSG’s starting XI to Alphonse Areola this season and has made just one Ligue 1 appearance since. And it is understood that Palace, whose manager Roy Hodgson is desperate to sign a new goalkeeper in January, have made an approach.
But with Newcastle United equally determined to nab a new number one at the earliest possible opportunity, is it simply inevitable that The Magpies’ name will soon be linked with the out-of-favour German?
According to The Chronicle, Rafa Benitez wants an experienced shot-stopper. And although Trapp is just 27 years of age, he has won six trophies since moving to PSG in 2015 and also has two caps for his country.
Trapp would certainly represent an upgrade on both Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow, on paper at least. So if PSG show any signs of being willing to let him go in January, it surely won’t be long before Newcastle are putting the feelers out.
