Newcastle United have joined Chelsea and Liverpool in the race for Sander Berge with the Sheffield United man attracting interest.
That’s according to The Mirror (29/01, p77), who claim that Newcastle are now weighing up a move for the Norwegian.
It’s suggested that Chelsea, Liverpool and AC Milan are all interested in signing Berge ahead of the January transfer deadline.
The report claims that Berge may be on the move for around £15million.
That will seem like a cheap deal considering that Sheffield United paid £22million for Berge in January 2020.
Yet with Berge now into the final 18 months of his contract, the Blades may need to sell before Berge’s value decreases in the summer.
Newcastle now appear to be keen again having wanted Berge in January 2022, but beating Chelsea and Liverpool won’t exactly be easy.

Who is Newcastle United target Sander Berge?
Berge, 24, emerged with Asker in native Norway before heading to Valerenga in 2015.
Berge showed major potential in his homeland and Belgian side Genk swooped in to snap him up in 2017.
The giant 6ft 5in midfielder continued to progress with Genk and amid links to major Premier League clubs, Sheffield United secured a massive coup.
Berge has now turned out 87 times for Sheffield United, racking up 12 goals and nine assists for the Blades.
Clearly too good for the Championship, Berge will be back in the Premier League soon enough – whether it’s with the promotion-chasing Blades or with a transfer.
Hailed as a ‘complete’ midfielder by former Blades boss Chris Wilder, Berge could be a real presence for Newcastle but isn’t a pure holding midfielder.
Berge has so much athletic ability and quality on the ball that limiting him to play in front of the back four seems like a waste.
Sheffield United will certainly hope that no bids arrive in the next 48 hours or so, but this much interest could be difficult to fend off.
