Sevilla are expecting Newcastle United to come back with a new move for defender Diego Carlos at the end of the season.

That’s according to Marca, who claim that Sevilla already think Newcastle are priming themselves to make a new move for Diego Carlos.

Newcastle tried to sign the Brazilian repeatedly during the January transfer window but just couldn’t get a deal done.

Sky Sports claimed that Diego Carlos was keen on joining Newcastle, so much so that he asked to leave Sevilla.

Sky’s La Liga expert Terry Gibson has branded Diego Carlos as a ‘sensational’ defender, even if Sevilla partner Jules Kounde gets more hype.

It’s now suggested that Sevilla think Chelsea will make their move for Kounde this summer, but they’re also expecting Newcastle to come back in for Diego Carlos.

Newcastle did sign a centre back before the transfer deadline with Dan Burn arriving from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Yet the long-term plan may be for Diego Carlos to partner Burn at the back to re-tool Eddie Howe’s back line.

Diego Carlos is only 6ft 1in, so partnering the giant Burn could make sense, whilst this partnership would also provide the balance of a right-footer with a left-footer.

Strong and aggressive, Diego Carlos has excelled in Spain since joining Sevilla from Nantes back in 2019.

Turning 29 in March, Diego Carlos may feel that this is his big chance to make a huge Premier League move – one that may not come around again.

Having missed out once in January, Newcastle will now hope to have better luck this summer, though a move will of course depend on them staying up.
