According to the Daily Star, Newcastle United are set to make a move for Nicolai Jorgensen in the summer.

Newcastle went after Feyenoord striker Jorgensen in January, but were unable to get a deal over the line.

The Danish forward has now suggested that he wants a move to the Premier League, and Newcastle are set to return for the striker at the next opportunity.

Have they left it too late?

Newcastle’s plan may have been a solid one, but there has to be question marks over why they have decided to push for Jorgensen again in the summer, rather than just paying up last month.

Feyenoord are likely to command a similar fee for the target-man in six months’ time, and Newcastle have simply taken a massive risk by not going for the forward.

The Magpies need to stay in the Premier League if they are to be able to sign Jorgensen, but there is no guarantees of that.

Newcastle are currently sat just one point above the drop zone, and their form badly needs to improve.

After missing out on Jorgensen, Newcastle moved for Islam Slimani last month, but the Algerian still isn’t fit.

And if Slimani doesn’t hit form then Newcastle could be dragged into the bottom three, which would see them miss out on Jorgensen altogether.
