Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles has been linked with a £35 million move to Leicester City.

Selling Jamaal Lascelles this close to the season starting would be an absolute disaster for Newcastle United.

The Sun claim that Leicester are lining up a £35 million bid for Lascelles, but Newcastle should swat that away without thinking twice.

Although the fee is a vast one, Lascelles is surely worth more than that to Newcastle now.

With Florian Lejeune set to be out for a long time, Lascelles’ importance to Newcastle has only grown over the summer.

And letting him go so close to the end of the transfer window would be an awful move for Rafael Benitez’s side.

If Newcastle were to sell Lascelles, they would be forced into rushing to buy a centre-back, and the chances are whoever they bought to replace the 24-year-old wouldn’t be of the same standard.

Lascelles was a commanding presence in Newcastle’s backline last term, with his performances catching the eye.

And Benitez and Mike Ashley should not even contemplate letting Lascelles leave St. James’ Park this summer, as it would be an awful decision at this stage of the summer.
