Newcastle United want Sacha Boey as they consider launching a summer move to sign the Galatasaray defender.

That’s according to Turkish-Football, who claim that Newcastle have already made contact with Galatasaray over a potential deal.

Galatasaray would allegedly want around €20million (£18million) for Boey with the Frenchman under contract until 2025.

Boey, 22, has started 20 games for Galatasaray this season, picking up two assists whilst playing exclusively as a right back.

It’s a little surprising to hear Newcastle being linked with another right back signing.

The Magpies already have a top right back in Kieran Trippier and just signed his future heir in Harrison Ashby.

Adding another right back into the mix would be a surprise when Newcastle definitely need more impact players in the final third.

Maybe Newcastle plan to loan Ashby out next season and want Boey as more proven competition for Trippier; that’s the only explanation we have for this rumour.

Newcastle United target Sacha Boey once rejected Celtic move

Boey emerged with Rennes having previously been in the Red Star ranks.

After making just eight league appearances for Rennes, Boey decided to leave for Galatasaray in 2021.

There were other offers on the table though and Boey looked to be heading for Scotland at one point.

Celtic pushed to sign Boey and offered him terms over a move to Parkhead – but he rejected the move according to L’Equipe.

An agent is understood to have scuppered the move and that paved the way for Boey to move to Turkey.

Celtic also missed out on Eddie Howe that summer as he ended up snubbing a move to Parkhead.

Celtic are very happy with Ange Postecoglou now, but there is an alternate world where Howe and Boey link up at Celtic in 2021.

Instead, the pair could join forces at Newcastle this summer in a real turn of events.
