Ryan Fraser is expected to leave Newcastle United in the January transfer window with Southampton chasing his signature.

The Magpies will be going through plenty of changes in upcoming transfer windows.

Big signings will be arriving and that means players leaving to make room for additions who can take Newcastle forward.

That happened over the summer as Dwight Gayle and Federico Fernandez were offloaded; such is the path of a club aiming to gatecrash the top four.

Ryan Fraser is expected to leave Newcastle

One player who now looks set to move on during the January transfer window is winger Ryan Fraser.

The Northern Echo report that Fraser has been identified as a player who can leave in order to make room for new faces.

It’s suggested that Fraser has really enjoyed working with manager Eddie Howe again having been coached by him at Bournemouth.

Yet Fraser is now ready to leave Newcastle and chase first-team football elsewhere in January.

Southampton are expected to make a move for Fraser early in January whilst Brentford are also interested.

Fraser, 28, joined Newcastle on a free transfer back in 2020 having impressed with Bournemouth.

Fraser hasn’t quite replicated his success at St James’ Park though, notching just three goals and six assists in 59 games for the Magpies.

The Scottish wide man has always been a hard worker but Newcastle are now seeking a step up in quality.

The writing has been on the wall of late with Fraser only starting three Premier League games this season.

It makes sense for all parties that Fraser now moves on and he may well head back to the South Coast with a move to Southampton.

Newcastle won’t stand in his way and Fraser moving on may now open up a spot for the Magpies to bring in another wide man.
