Newcastle United winger Ryan Fraser has caused anger in the Scotland camp after pulling out of international duty – only to train with the Magpies.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Fraser pulled out of international duty citing a calf injury.

However, Fraser then went through Eddie Howe’s first training session as Newcastle boss on Monday, raising questions about that injury.

Scotland boss Steve Clarke now wants answers from Fraser, with anger inside the Scotland camp about Fraser’s actions.

Newcastle claim that Fraser didn’t take part in the full session but was actually just trying to test out his injury.

Scotland just aren’t buying it, and actually think Fraser wanted to be at Newcastle in order to impress new boss Howe.

Fraser worked with Howe at Bournemouth, but their relationship maybe didn’t end on the best note there.

Fraser chose not to play for Bournemouth beyond the end of his contract, sitting out as Howe and the Cherries suffered relegation.

The winger maybe wanted to prove his commitment to Howe this time around, which would be a positive for Newcastle but not quite so much for Scotland.
